Vintage Ikat No. 22

Vintage Ikat No. 22

With multiple designs of ikat running through it, this highly complex design shows off the weaver’s incredible artistry. Each ikat design is knotted and dyed by hand in the time-honored techniques passed down for generations.  Handwoven on a wooden pedal loom, this textile was originally made in a long panel of fabric for a “corte” (skirt) that wraps around a woman’s waist and is secured with a colorful embroidered belt. Found in the local market in San Juan La Laguna. Due to its vintage nature, each handmade pillow varies slightly and shows some minor use.

This pillow helps sustain this ancestral craft and provide income for weavers in San Juan La Laguna, Guatemala.
