Vintage Ikat No. 14

Vintage Ikat No. 14

This rare floral ikat design was skillfully tied by hand and naturally dyed with indigo using the techniques passed down by generations of weavers in Guatemala. Handwoven on a traditional Mayan backstrap loom, a long panel of fabric is designed as a “corte” (skirt) that wraps around a woman’s waist and is secured with a colorful embroidered belt. Found in the local market at Lake Atitlán. Due to its vintage nature, each handmade pillow varies slightly and shows some minor use.

This pillow helps sustain this ancestral craft and provide income for weavers in Lake Atitlán, Guatemala.
